Real Estate Taxes are due semi-annually on June 25th and December 5th. Supplement bills are due within 30 days of the bill date. View important dates for current supplements and due dates. Real estate taxes are billed on a calendar year basis.
Assessments are determined by the Office of Real Estate Assessment 757-890-3720. The Real Estate Tax rate for the current year is $0.74 per $100 of assessed value. Real Estate tax rates are set annually by the York County Board of Supervisors in the month of May.
The Real Estate Book is prepared by the Commissioner of the Revenue and the taxes are collected by the Treasurer.
York County residents age 65 or over and certain disabled persons may be eligible for relief of real estate tax depending upon their annual income and assets. Applications for tax relief must be filed each year. For further information please contact the Commissioner of the Revenue at 757-890-3382.
All York County property owners, including properties that have a mortgage company escrow to pay the taxes, will now be receiving real estate tax bills. If a mortgage company is responsible for payment of taxes, the bill is for your records only. Citizens responsible for paying their own real estate taxes should remit payment by the due date on the bill.
Penalty is 2% if paid within the month due. The penalty will increase to $10 or 10% , whichever is greater, but not to exceed the amount of the tax on any remaining balance. The penalty is calculated separately for each taxable item.
Interest is accrued at an annual rate of 6% until payment in full is received.
